Serving Sandusky and Erie County
Care that shows up at home beats care you have to drive to, especially along the lake in January. Med1Care brings home health aides, nurses, and in-home physical, occupational, and speech therapy to Erie County families on the schedule a doctor orders.
A Med1Care person answers 24/7/365, never an answering service. Office hours are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday. Referring a patient? Send a referral here.
What we do here
The doctor decides what's needed. We put the right people in the plan.
Personal care and support
Aides handle what makes staying at home possible. Getting cleaned up and dressed, a decent meal, the reminder to take the morning pills, company in the afternoon. Every aide works under a licensed nurse and gets matched to the household on purpose.
Skilled nursing at home
Our RNs and LPNs take physician-ordered treatment into Erie County homes, from wound care through ventilator support. They follow the orders, watch for changes, and keep your doctor in the loop the whole way.
Physical, occupational, and speech therapy run through our in-home therapy team, and your doctor can add them to the same plan of care.
Paying for it
When you qualify, Original Medicare pays nothing out of your pocket for covered home health visits. Medical equipment is the exception, and that runs 20 percent of the approved amount after your Part B deductible. Medicare Advantage plans set their own cost sharing and often want prior authorization, so the answer there depends on your plan.
Qualifying takes a few things at once. A doctor has to certify the need after seeing the patient face to face, the care has to be part-time or intermittent skilled nursing or therapy, and the patient has to be homebound. We're a Medicare and Medicaid certified agency, and we also work with Ohio Medicaid, Passport, waiver programs, and most private insurers.
Don't fill anything out yet. Phone us at 419.866.0555 and we'll check your plan while you're on the line, then tell you what applies to your situation rather than the average one.
There's no Medicare payment for help with bathing, dressing, meals, or housekeeping when that's the only care somebody needs. It covers aide visits alongside ordered skilled nursing or therapy, not on their own. Private duty care is available if you'd rather arrange and pay for help directly. If daily help is what your family is after, say so on the first call and we'll tell you what your options actually are, including the ones that aren't us.
Nothing here gets sent anywhere. It's a gut check before you call.
Check the boxes that apply. Either way, the next step is the same phone call.
This isn't a coverage decision. Medicare and your insurer decide what's covered. Our intake team can walk you through it in about ten minutes.
The record
CMS scores every certified home health agency in the country on the same measures and publishes the results. Ours are below. Anyone can look them up.
Two more worth knowing. Med1Care beats the national rate on discharge to community and on potentially preventable hospitalization, both risk-adjusted by CMS. Every figure here is published on Medicare Care Compare under CMS certification number 368362, where it refreshes quarterly. Last checked .
Comparing agencies
Pick three agencies and ask all of them the same things. Write the answers down. Here's what we'd tell you, so you have something to hold the others against.
Coverage area
Caregivers cover Sandusky, Huron, Vermilion, Castalia, Milan, Berlin Heights, and Bay View week in and week out.
Erie County is one of 26 counties Med1Care covers across northwest and northern Ohio. Wondering if we reach you? One call to 419.866.0555 settles it.
Erie County, marked in red, is where Sandusky sits.
In plain words
Home healthcare Sandusky. Home care Sandusky Ohio. In-home nursing near me. Private duty caregiver. The search wording changes family to family and the need underneath doesn't. Med1Care staffs all of it, aides for personal care and daily support, nurses for the medical side, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists when the plan calls for them, seven days a week across Erie County. Skip the guessing, call 419.866.0555, and just tell us what's going on. Sorting out the rest is our job.
Reviews
Every quote below comes from our public Google reviews, word for word.

Getting started
Tell us what's going on. We'll tell you whether home care, home therapy, or the outpatient clinic fits best, and we'll be honest if it's not us at all.
We're Medicare and Medicaid certified and work with Passport, waiver programs, and most private plans. Your doctor's orders set the plan.
Your aide, nurse, or therapist arrives on the ordered schedule, and a Case Manager keeps everything coordinated.
Sandusky questions
Under Original Medicare, covered visits come to zero out of pocket. Durable equipment carries 20 percent after your Part B deductible, and Medicare Advantage costs depend on the plan. We also work with Ohio Medicaid, Passport, waivers, most private insurers, and straight private duty. Read us the plan name on the call and we'll tell you where you stand.
A few days is typical once the doctor's orders arrive. Coverage checks can stretch it, and we'll tell you upfront if yours will.
All the time, from discharge planners and physicians both. The referral form or one phone call gets it moving and a Case Manager owns it from there.
Yes. Our aides handle bathing, dressing, meals, light housekeeping, and medication reminders, with a licensed nurse supervising the plan. Medicare only pays for aide visits alongside ordered skilled care, but Ohio Medicaid, Passport, and waiver programs cover ongoing daily help for many families, and private duty care is there when you'd rather pay for help directly. Call and we'll sort out which one fits your situation.
There are two tests and Medicare applies both. Leaving home has to be medically inadvisable or take help from another person or a device, and the patient has to be normally unable to leave home, with going out taking a lot of effort. It does not mean never leaving. Medicare allows trips for medical care, religious services, adult day care, and the occasional family event.
No, and you won't miss it. Every visit happens in your home, scheduling runs through our northwest Ohio offices, and a Med1Care representative answers the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
